This is without doubt our favourite Indian restaurant in town. Food, service, atmosphere are all superb. Either eating in or take away we go at least once a month. We even had our Wedding Rehearsal (night before) dinner here! My wife’s family are ex northern India so we know good curry. This is excellent. The other Indian restaurants in Stamford……

This is by far the best Indian Resteraunt in the area. Most importantly the food is great and the menu is a little bit more up-market than the traditional British Indian restraunt but still very reasonably priced. The Sunday Buffet is particularly good value if you are looking to dry dishes that you may not normally. Coupled with this the…

We discovered the Bombay Cottage about a year ago, and have never eaten at the other Indian restaurants in Stamford since. The portions are a good size, well priced and the food is very tasty especially the Chef’s Recommendations. The service is good whether we dine as a couple of as a group of 25.

If I am ever to get a takeaway/delivered curry in Stamford, I will always choose the Cottage, very generous portions and tasty dishes. I have eaten in the restaurant on a number occasions and whilst the food is very good again, I have often been the only table in. With a better atmosphere this place could be rocking. If they…

We have been using the Bombay cottage for a number of years now and always found the food and service to be great, but things have changed. It’s got even better in the last few months! The presentation of dishes has improved dramatically as has the variety and choice. They now are just as good as The Bengal Clipper, although…

The Bombay Cottage is one of the most established restaurants in Stamford. Having used this restaurant for mid-week dining and for takeaway food for over ten years, I can say that I have never been disappointed. The service is always prompt without being hurried. The menu is extensive, and has a varied range of Chef’s specialities. The portions are not…

The Bombay Cottage is one of Stamford’s best known curry houses, situated on Scotgate, Stamford. Established in 1994, it is run by Habib and his team of eight staff. Behind its small frontage is a deceptively spacious and very welcoming restaurant, which was refurbished early this year.
It’s fair to say that in recent times the Bombay Cottage has been overshadowed by a new breed of Indian restaurants that have sprung up around Stamford, however, with the restaurant looking bang up to date, and a new menu that is better than ever, it is fair to say that the Bombay is back!
The menu is comprehensive without being confusing, and there is a whole section of “Special Presentation” options, which are the signature dishes, including many new arrivals.
As we were eating late on a Friday evening and were all ravenous, we opted to dive straight into the main courses, having first demolished a large basket of papadoms, which were served with the usual sauces, pickles, and chopped salad – all deliciously fresh.
We decided to share four mains, which included the new Raj-Shahi Amar Jhinga – a dish of Goan origin comprising king prawns cooked in a medium to mild sauce with mango pulp, natural yoghurt, and a dash of fresh cream. The prawns were cooked perfectly and the sauce was absolutely delicious. We also sampled the new Rangamati chicken, which comprised thinly sliced breast of chicken cooked with Bangladeshi spices, cumin seeds, ginger, garlic, fried onion and peppers; it was definitely on the hot side but extremely tasty. Another dish which went down really well was the classic Chicken Saslik, a healthier option of baked chicken pieces roasted in tandoori spices and served with salad and mint yoghurt. With sides of sag (spinach) bhajee, and mushroom pilau rice there was certainly plenty to go round.
All we could manage for dessert were some wonderfully refreshing lemon and orange sorbets, which were the perfect contrast to our main meal. The bill came to an extremely reasonable £80 for four, which included two rounds of drinks.
All in all, fantastic food, great company, and knowledgable, attentive service, which is what has always set The Bombay Cottage apart from the competition, and will continue to do so. pls click here for more

Restaurant review: Duncan Jackson tries out the Bombay Cottage, in Scotgate, Stamford:
FOR most men, a curry on a Friday night is usually the culmination of an evening’s drinking in the pub, so I always find it rather strange entering an Indian restaurant at 8.30pm.
It always seems far too quiet at that time, with no drunken shouting at waiters and, as most of the patrons are normally couples, there’s little egging on of others to dare to sample the vindaloo.
But that sort of behaviour would seem out of place at any time of the day at the Bombay Cottage in Stamford. Located in one of the town’s beautiful older buildings in Scotgate, the restaurant looks as if it has recently undergone a colourful, modern makeover, with lots of beautiful large pictures on the bright walls.
We received an extremely warm and polite welcome when we entered, and the excellent customer service continued throughout the night from the extremely attentive staff. The only downside was that my wife’s diet cola arrived with ice in on two occasions, despite her specifically asking for her drink without frozen accompaniment.
The menu obviously features the staple Indian dishes of bhunas, jhalfrezis and baltis, etc, as well as the restaurant’s “special presentation” dishes, such as Tandoori Duck Shugondi (£8.90), Lamb Shank (£10.95) and Raj-Shahi Amar Jhinga (£10.95).
After tucking into our popadoms, for starters, I opted for the Mixed Kebab (£4.95), which, as the name suggested, featured a selection of tikka, sheek and prawn kebabs, as well as a lamb chop. Certainly not a dish for a light eater, it provided a great start to the meal, and I particularly enjoyed the sheek kebab, although all four items were perfectly cooked and seasoned superbly. pls click here for more
